Daley Named Chuck Bednarik Award Semifinalist

Award given each season to the Collegiate Defensive Player of the Year
PHILADELPHIA — Utah redshirt sophomore defensive end John Henry Daley has been named a Chuck Bednarik Award Semifinalist, as announced by the Maxwell Football Club on Tuesday.

Daley, who is also a Lott IMPACT Trophy Quarterfinalist, has started all nine games at defensive end this season. He has been among the top pass rushers in the country all year, currently ranking fifth in the NCAA in both sacks per game (1.06) and tackles for loss per game (1.56). Daley's 9.5 total sacks are just 2.0 sacks off the nation's lead.

Semifinalist voting will begin on Nov. 17, and will close on Nov. 24. Three finalists for each award will be announced on Nov. 27, and a finalist round of voting will take place at that time. The winner of the Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show, which will be broadcast live on ESPN on Thursday, Dec. 11.

- Has totaled 40 tackles (14.0 TFL, 9.5 sacks) on the season.
- Is second in the Big 12 with 14.0 TFL (T-8th in FBS) and is T-6th in the country with 9.5 sacks.
- Has tallied 77 sack yards this season, ranking seventh on the Utah single-season leaderboard.
- Made strip-sacks in back-to-back games (at Wyoming, vs. Texas Tech), becoming the first Utah player since 2017 to accomplish that feat.
