UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Utah women's basketball finished out the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase with a 93-41 loss to defending national champs and No. 1 ranked UConn.
The Utes move to 3-3 overall on the season. Utah also recorded an assist on every field goal made with 14 assists on 14 field goals. The Utes were led by Lani White's nine points and Brooke Walker's eight.
GAME SUMMARY The Huskies controlled the momentum early in the game pulling out for a 32-8 lead over the Utes after the initial quarter of play.
Utah locked in on defense and held UConn to just three points for nearly six minutes of the second quarter allowing just one field and one free throw. Utah worked to dig out of the deficit but still trailed 44-19 at the end of the first half.
UConn came out of the break and took control of the game by outscoring Utah 21-3 over five minutes. The Huskies controlled the pace for the rest of the game and walked away with a 91-44 win over the Utes.
COMPARISON Utah shot 25.9% from the field while UConn shot 53.7% from the field. Utah went 21.6% from three making 8-of-37 while UConn went 44.0% shooting 11-of-25. The Utes shot 62.5% from the line going 5-of-8 while the Huskies shot 76.9% from the line going 10-of-13.
Utah had 14 assists to UConn's 23. The Huskies had 41 rebounds to Utah's 32. Utah had 24 turnovers which UConn converted into 39 points.
UP NEXT The Utes return to the Huntsman Center on Nov. 26 to face off against in-state foe Weber State at 7 p.m. Utah will hit the road after Thanksgiving to take on the Lady Griz of Montana Nov. 29 in Missoula, Mont.
