Utah improves to 10-2 on the season, 7-2 in Big 12 play
The Utes finish the 2025 regular season with a 10-2 overall record, going 7-2 in conference play. Utah still has a chance to reach the Edward Jones Big 12 Conference Championship and will await Saturday's results.
Utah trailed for the second game in a row entering the fourth quarter, but a pair of touchdown passes from Devon Dampier to Larry Simmons and a 97-yard pick-six by Elijah Davis was enough to seal the comeback in the final 15 minutes. It marks the first time since 2010 that Utah has won back-to-back games when trailing at the end of the third quarter and Friday was Utah's first road win by 10-plus points when trailing to start the fourth quarter since 1988.
The Utes gave up 486 yards of offense on the day but were stout when needed. Kansas made five trips to the red zone but came away with points just twice. Utah picked off three passes, two of which came inside the red zone, and the Utes' three interceptions are the program's most in a game since 2022.
Davis' 97-yard pick-six was the fourth-longest in Utah program history and the 10th-longest in the history of the Big 12 Conference.
Jackson Bennee and Logan Fano led the defensive effort with a career-high 10 tackles each. Bennee added a career-high 1.5 TFL to go with an interception while Fano combined with Johnathan Hall for the Utes' lone sack of the day. Tao Johnson also finished with nine tackles, setting a new season high and matching his career best. Smith Snowden picked off a pass as well while making four stops.
As a team, the Utes totaled six TFL and three pass breakups while holding the Jayhawks to 10-of-27 passing. Utah stopped Kansas on both of its fourth-down tries.
Offensively, Utah put up 414 yards of offense, the Utes' 11th time this year eclipsing the 400-yard mark. Holding the ball for only 23:03, the Utes averaged 7.4 yards per play and were successful on 7-of-13 third-down tries.
Dampier ended the regular season on a high note, completing 15-of-25 passes for 253 yards and three touchdowns while rushing 11 times for 50 yards. Friday marked Dampier's sixth game this season with 200-plus passing yards and 50-plus rushing yards in a game, the most by a Utah quarterback since Alex Smith in 2004.
Simmons led the Utah receiver room with three catches for 97 yards and a pair of touchdowns. JJ Buchanan added two catches for 65 yards and a score. Dallen Bentley hauled in four passes for 29 yards. Wayshawn Parker rushed 12 times for 95 yards and brought in his lone pass for 32 yards.
All three of Utah's offensive touchdowns came from outside the red zone.
