WACO, Texas – Utah Volleyball suffered a sweep against No. 23 Baylor despite jumping to early leads in sets one and two, and keeping set three close.
The Utes showed determination throughout the match but ultimately couldn't come up with set wins over the Bears, falling 0-3 (19-25, 12-25, 22-25).
SET ONE
Utah jumped out to an early 7-5 lead over Baylor to start set one, highlighted by a big kill from freshman middle blocker Katelynn field.
The Utes continued building an 8-1 run over the Bears with a 10-6 advantage by the first media break. However, Baylor didn't stay down long climbing back within two of Utah, 12-10.
Unfortunately, the Utes lost momentum down the stretch, and the Bears took a 25-19 set win.
SET TWO
Once again, the Utes took an early lead over the Bears, jumping out to a 4-1 advantage.
Baylor closed the gap, taking an 11-7 lead over Utah about halfway through the set.
Eventually, the Bears ran away with the set, taking a 25-12 win.
SET THREE
Set three started tighter with the Utes and Bears trading blows, keeping the match tied six times until Baylor took an 8-6 lead.
Despite efforts to close in on Baylor and force a fourth set, the Utes were unable to get the job done, falling 25-22.
STANDOUT STATS
- Utes Total Stats: 39 kills off 105 total attempts, two aces, 36 assists, four blocks, 38 digs.
- Kamryn Gibadlo led the Utes in kills (13) and digs (7) while adding two blocks.
- Levani Key-Powell was second in kills (12) and tied second in digs (5) with McKenna Payne.
- Field had a solid day posting six kills for a .600 hitting percentage, two blocks and tying her career high for digs at three.
UP NEXT
The Utes head come home to host rival BYU at the Jon M. Huntsman Center for Military Appreciation Night on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. MT.
Fans are encouraged to show up early and wear red.
The match will air on ESPN+.
