SALT LAKE CITY – Utah lacrosse head coach
Andrew McMinn announced Wednesday that former team captain
Brendan Belz will be returning to the program as the Utes' new Director of Operations.
"I am incredibly excited and grateful to return to Utah Lacrosse, a program that I have been a part of and one that has given me so much," Belz said. "Having the chance to give back in this new role is truly special."
Belz appeared in 17 games during his Utah career, recording five ground balls and causing a pair of turnovers. He was one of 35 Utes honored with the 2025 Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, the Big 12 Conference's highest academic honor. He was also selected to both the Pac-12 and Big 12 academic honor rolls during his time as a student-athlete.
Belz was elected in April as the Big 12's sole student-athlete advisory committee representative at the NCAA level, working directly with NCAA leadership to advocate for student-athlete welfare, experience and academic success. He previously served as the University of Utah's representative to the Big 12 SAAC, collaborating with peer institutions to address conference-wide issues and propose policy improvements. Belz also served as an executive and unmuted member of the University of Utah Crimson Council leadership group.
After graduating from Utah in May with his Bachelor of Science degree in City and Metropolitan Planning and minors in Architecture and Parks, Recreation and Tourism, Belz joined the Yale University athletic department as a ticketing fellow. He helped drive ticket sales and provide customer support for single-game and season ticket packages for football, men's and women's basketball, men's ice hockey and men's lacrosse.
"Brendan represented our program with pride and leadership as a student-athlete, and we look forward to the impact he'll make in this new position," McMinn said. "He fully immersed himself in every aspect of the student-athlete experience – making his mark through community service, professional development and Crimson Council. Combined with his recent experience at Yale, he returns with a skill set perfectly suited for this role."
During his four years as a student-athlete, Belz helped guide Utah to a 40-23 overall record, including a dominant 26-2 mark in Atlantic Sun Conference play. Belz played a vital role in the Utes' two ASUN titles over the last three seasons. His focus now shifts to student-athlete support, overseeing travel and assisting in the day-to-day operations of the program as well as game day procedures.
"I look forward to supporting the daily operational needs of this program while placing a strong emphasis on enhancing the student-athlete experience and strengthening our relationships with alumni and the community," Belz added. "This role is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to a program that means so much to me, and I am grateful for the chance to positively impact the program and its student-athletes for years to come. Go Utes!"
