SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah diving team is set to compete against four Ivy League programs at the Big Al Invitational, hosted by Princeton, from Dec. 4-6.
Opponents: Cornell, Columbia, Princeton, Pennsylvania
Location: DeNunzio Pool | Princeton, N.J.
Date: Thursday, Dec. 4 – Saturday, Dec. 6
Meet Information: DiveMeets
"This meet offers us an opportunity to have another conference-like meet where we have prelims in the morning and finals at night, so the divers can get used to what it is going to be like at the Big 12 Championships and the NCAA Championships," head diving coach
Richard Marschner said.
Prelims will begin at 10 a.m. MT all three days, with finals being held at 4 p.m. MT on Thursday and Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+.
"We have a good opportunity to get some 10-meter training in and get some zone scores potentially," Marschner added. "We'll get a good look at some other competition that we're not used to seeing."
Among the Best
The Utes were represented in the women's, men's and combined team rankings when the US Professional Diving Coaches Association (US PDCA) revealed its first set of in-season rankings last month. The women's team checked in at No. 13 nationally, the combined squad was ranked No. 20 and the men's side received votes.
Utah is one of 28 schools nationally to at least receive votes in all three polls and the only school in the Big 12 Conference to do so. Utah boasts the second-highest-ranked Big 12 school on the women's side, one spot behind No. 13 Kansas, and the third-highest-ranked men's squad behind No. 11. Arizona and No. 22 TCU. As a combined program, Utah is second in the conference behind only No. 19 Arizona.
The next set of rankings will be released on Dec. 15.

Seniors
Kathryn Grant and
Elias Petersen powered the Utes at the Texas Diving Invitational last time out, leading Utah in a meet that included six teams ranked in the top 20 nationally.
Grant placed fourth on the 1-meter and fifth on both the 3-meter and platform, the only woman in Austin to finish in the top five on all three events. She tied for first individually with 43 points on the weekend, scoring a 288.15 on the 1-meter, 298.25 on the 3-meter and 249.30 in her first platform competition of the season.
Grant was recognized by the Big 12 Conference with Women's Diver of the Week honors following the weekend.
Petersen also led the men's side with three finals appearances. He placed eighth on both the 1- and 3-meter springboards and finished 15th on platform.
Halloween W
The Utes dominated in their home opener on Halloween, with the men's team defeating Colorado Mesa 228-72 and the women's side winning by a 192-108 scoreline. The Utes came out on top in 26 of 32 total events, including eight podium sweeps.
Utah won on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard on the men's and women's sides.
Elias Petersen made his season debut and took both golds on the men's side, while
Callie Eaglestone and
Kathryn Grant each logged a win in their first competition of the season.
First Meet, No Jitters
Attila Bernatsky shined in his season debut against Wyoming, winning the men's 3m with a list total of 281.25 and placing second in the 1m.
Alex Just placed second in the 3m in his Utah debut as well.
Annalise Shrader and
Cierra Cole also showed promise in their collegiate debuts. Cole finished second in the women's 3m and third in the 1m, while Shrader logged a second-place result in the 1m and placed fourth in the 3m.
Bernatsky was named the Big 12 Men's Diver of the Week following Utah's season-opener against Wyoming. Bernatsky's recognition was the first of his career and the 11th weekly award by the Utes since joining the Big 12 Conference prior to last season.
Following Grant's weekly award, nine of Utah's Big 12 weekly honors have come from divers.
A Look Back - On the Boards
In the 16th season under Marschner, the Utes have high expectations and are receiving some preseason national recognition. The women's diving team was ranked ninth in the nation and the top team in the Big 12 Conference, while the Utes ranked 13th among all combined Division I programs and take the top spot in the Big 12 when the US PDCA released its first preseason coaches poll last month.
- On the women's side, the Utes will be led by Kathryn Grant and Callie Eaglestone.
- Eaglestone was recognized as the Big 12 Freshman Diver of the Meet at the conference championships last season and the duo both represented the Utes at the NCAA Championships and will look to return to McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta come March.
- Eaglestone earned a spot on both the all-Big 12 first and second teams while Grant was named to the conference's second team.
- Elias Petersen, last season's Big 12 Men's Diver of the Year, will look to anchor the men's side after placing fourth to earn All-America status on the 1-meter springboard and 25th on the 3-meter springboard at the 2025 Championships.
- Petersen broke his own program record in the 1m last year and smashed the Ute Natatorium record that stood since 2018 with a list score of 411.45. He will be joined on the men's side by Auburn transfer Alex Just.
