SALT LAKE CITY – Utah lacrosse head coach
Andrew McMinn has named the team captains ahead the 2026 season, he announced Tuesday. Seniors
Nikko DiPonio,
Ryan Stines and
Will Overly will serve as team captains as the Utes look to capture their third ASUN title in the last four years.
"We are incredibly confident in the leadership group that we have in place for this season," head coach
Andrew McMinn said. "Ryan and Nikko both return as captains from last season and will continue to expand their leadership capabilities and influence within our program, while Will has continued to set an extremely high standard in every aspect of being a student-athlete and will be a great addition to this group."
A two-time All-ASUN first team selection, DiPonio was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year and was selected as a USILA, Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse all-America honorable mention in 2025. DiPonio started all 15 games a season ago, recording 96 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers to go with four points thanks to a pair of goals and assists. He led the ASUN and ranked 12th nationally with 6.85 ground balls per game, while his 96 total ground balls rank third in single-season program history.
Stines, the 2024 ASUN Player of the Year and 2023 ASUN Freshman of the Year, will look to once again pace the Utah offensive attack. Stines enters the season ranked third in career points (162) and goals (103) and holds the program records for assists in a single season (40) and points (67). The Cary, N.C., native has led the Utes in points each of the last two seasons and has started all 49 games during his three seasons in Salt Lake City.
Overly played in 14 games in the midfield a season ago, tallying 24 points on 14 goals and 10 assists while also recording seven ground balls and a caused turnover.
"We have a large, strong group of senior leaders who will all be incredibly impactful in leading this team to achieve our goals," McMinn added.
