COUNTRY ROADS, TAKE ME HOME
Utah assistant coach
Josh Eilert will make his return to Morgantown this weekend for the first time since joining the Runnin' Utes staff in June of 2024. Eilert spent 17 seasons with the Mountaineers in various capacities, including one season as the interim head coach in 2023-24.
DOWN MEMORY LANE
The last time Utah and West Virginia squared off was in the Sweet 16 on March 19, 1998, during Utah's Final Four run under legendary head coach Rick Majerus. The Runnin' Utes sneaked past the Mountaineers 65-62 behind a 25-point performance from future NBA Champion Michael Doleac. The 6-11 center went 6-for-11 from the field, 13-of-14 from the line and was just a rebound shy of a double-double with 9 boards. Utah floor general and NBA iron man Andre Miller added 14 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the charity stripe with 8 assists.
BATTLING THE PACK
Midway through the season, the Runnin' Utes are sitting ahead of its preseason projection of 16th. Utah is currently in a four-way tie with West Virginia, TCU and Kansas State at 5-6 in Big 12 play. The Utes will have their hands full this Saturday when they face West Virginia – who is ranked 13th nationally in 3-point field-goal defense (.289) and 16th in scoring defense (63.7).
