Record-breaking attendance and Faulkner earns third hat trick this season
SALT LAKE CITY – Despite Cade Faulkner earned his third hat trick this season, the University of Utah lacrosse program suffered a 15-5 loss at the hands of No. 11 Syracuse University at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Utah started the game putting the first attempt on the board, but Syracuse quickly took over the field with a 7-0 run. Working to close the deficit, Faulkner was able to put the Utes on the board, but it wasn't enough. Utah would ultimately fall 15-5 to the Orange, bumping the all-time record to 0-2.
GAME LEADERS
Sophomore Cade Faulkner marked his third game leading the Utes in goals, achieving his third hat trick this season and successfully heading the top of the roster in points with three. Junior Will Overly and senior Colby Plotts both tallied their second goal off the season. Junior Ryan Stines worked hard to put a point on the scoreboard with seven shots, the most from the Utah roster, but fell short, ending his 25th game scoring streak. The attack did assist one of Faulkner's goals, marking the 25th consecutive game he's earned a point.
Defensively, thirteen different Utes scooped up a ground ball with Stines, junior Nikko DiPonio and sophomore Bryce Madden all finding three. Sophomore Luca Pivetta and sophomore Marco Pascarella both caused two turnovers, with three other Utes adding a CTO into the mix.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
Utah heads back to New Hampshire, this time taking on Dartmouth College on March 8 at 10 a.m. MT in Hanover, N.H.
