Kylie Pitzak achieves milestone with 50th career victory
STANFORD, Calif. – The pairings of Sonja Wessel and Maeve Griffin and Lauren Sayre and Elle Burleson both tallied two victories and Kylie Pitzak pocketed her 50th career win as the University of Utah beach volleyball team dispatched the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders, 3-2, and the Saint Mary's Gaels, 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium in Stanford, Calif.
Utah's now owns a mark of 12-4 in 2025 and Saturday marked their fifth two-win day of the season.
Utah vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
The Utes utilized three sweeps to defeat the Islanders, the first one coming from Wessel and Griffin in the No. 4 match, 21-14, 21-14.
A&M-Corpus Christi rebounded to win the second flight, but Sayre and Burleson restored Utah's edge by securing the fifth spot, 21-18, 22-20. The clincher was applied by Kylie Pitzak and Ellyn Collins at No. 3, 21-19, 21-13. That win also doubled as the 50th in Pitzak's career.
Utah vs. Saint Mary's
For the second time on Saturday, Griffin and Wessel were the ones who got Utah on the scoreboard first, posting another sweep by a score of 21-14, 21-14. Langley Griffin and Bella Vezzani registered their own sweep in the second flight by a score of 21-14, 21-15 to put the Utes up two.
Sayre and Burleson put up their second straight-set win in the No. 5 spot, 21-19, 21-15 and Utah's No. 1 tandem of Quincy Stephens and Katie McAlister finished off the day by locking down their flight, 21-17, 21-16.
