SCOUTING THE WEEKEND COMPETITION
- This is the first ever encounter the Utes have had with Spring Hill College. The Badgers are 8-7 on the season, sustaining losses to No. 7 Florida State and No. 12 LSU. The Utes have one opponent in common with SHC in Southern Miss, where Utah beat Southern Miss 5-0, and Spring Hill lost to them 1-4 on two separate occasions.
- Tulane is having a very successful campaign, where they have started with a record of 14-4. The Green Wave is as hot as any team in the country, riding an eight-match win streak heading into the weekend. In the latest AVCA poll, Tulane received the most votes outside of the top 20.
- This will be the third year in a row where Utah faces TAMU Kingsville, with the Utes holding a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series. The Javelinas have a 13-3 record to start the season. In their last outing, they won three out of four matches on the weekend but took a loss to Stephen F. Austin which ended their nine-match win-streak.
LAST TIME OUT
Utah went to Stanford, Calif to take on Saint Mary's, No. 5 Stanford and RV TAMU Corpus Christi. Utah had a three-win weekend, bringing their season record to 12-4. In both matches versus the Gaels of Saint Mary's, Utah won by a score of 4-1. The Utes struggled against the No. 5 ranked Stanford but had a massive bounce back victory against TAMUCC, whom has consistently been receiving votes in the AVCA.
HEAD COACH BRENDA WHICKER
Coach Whicker enters her ninth season at the helm of Utah beach volleyball. She is coming off the winningest season in program history finishing with a record of 19-16, with a first-round Pac-12 Tournament victory over Oregon. So far in 2025, she has coached Utah to their most successful start in program history, with a 12-4 season record. Over the weekend, she coached Utah to winning three out of four games, including a win versus a highly touted squad in TAMUCC. Whicker was a volleyball player at Utah under current volleyball head coach Beth Launiere from 1994-97. She holds the record for most aces in Utah volleyball history and is one of six players in Utah volleyball history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career while playing for Utah.
UTAH BEACH CLASSIC
Utah's lone home competitions are set for March 28-29, when the Utes host the fourth edition of the Utah Beach Classic. This year, UC Davis, Boise State, Oregon and Big 12 opponent Arizona will join Utah for the weekend in Salt Lake City. The Utes will host at the Lassonde Sports Court on the Utah campus.
