SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women's tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 13 Texas Tech on Thursday evening in the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. The Utes are now 5-7 overall and 0-3 in Big 12 play.

The Utes faced an early setback as Texas Tech secured the doubles point. The Lady Raiders tallied wins on the No. 3 and No. 1 court, leaving the remaining match unfinished.

Sara Akid was able to pick up a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the No. 2 spot over Maria Hlahola after Texas Tech grabbed a win in the No. 6 spot. However, the Red Raiders responded with wins in the No. 5 and No. 3 spots to ultimately clinch the match.

Emma Kamper dropped her first set 6-4 and was leading 5-2 in the second when play was halted. In the No. 4 spot, Emma Valletta was locked in a battle in her second set before the match was decided, leaving both contests unfinished.

The Utes will host Colorado in the George S. Eccles Center on March 8 at 11 a.m., before heading down south to face BYU in Provo on March 15 at 11 a.m.Â
