SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah women's tennis team defeated Colorado 4-3 at home on Saturday afternoon. The victory moves Utah's record to 6-7 overall, while going 1-4 in conference play.Â
The Utes saw a standout performance from Emma Kamper, who battled back in doubles to achieve a comeback win with partner Hayley Roberts. Kamper then went on to grab the first singles victory 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1.
DOUBLES
Utah fought hard in doubles play. After the Buffs secured a win on court three, Emma Kamper and Hayley Roberts answered with a 6-4 victory over Lera Alexin and Mila Stanojevic at No. 2. However, Colorado claimed the win on court one, clinching the doubles point.
SINGLES
Kamper set the tone in singles play, defeating Stanojevic 6-1, 6-4 on the top court. Kaila Barksdale followed at No. 3, overcoming Betina Tokac 7-5, 6-0 to give the Utes a 2-1 lead. After the Buffs evened the score on court five, Sara Akid battled through a tight tiebreak at No. 2, edging out Rixt van der Werff 6-3, 7-6(5).
Colorado responded with a win on court six, tying the match at 3-3 and leaving the deciding point to Emma Valletta on court four. Valletta battled through a hard-fought third set, ultimately defeating Ema Bubalo 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to clinch the victory for the Utes.
NEXT UP
The Utes will next hit the road to Provo for a rivalry match against BYU on March 15. They will then head back east for matches against West Virginia (March 20) and Cincinnati (March 22).
