Q&A with Utah Football’s Zacharyus Williams

Sophomore wide receiver to try and build on strong finish to 2024
SALT LAKE CITY – Spring practice is in full swing for the University of Utah football team and one of the players getting back to work on the gridiron is sophomore receiver Zacharyus Williams.
Few players had a stronger finish to 2024 than Williams did, as evidenced by his 83 total yards from scrimmage in the program's season-closing win at UCF. Williams hauled in six passes for 72 yards in Utah's 28-14 victory, both season-highs. As the Utes look forward to the 2025 season, UtahUtes.com spent a couple minutes with Williams, discussing the start to the spring and his relationship with his brother, who played football at San Diego State.
How's the start of spring practice gone?
It's going well. The offense is getting together, gelling and chemistry is building up. It feels good to be back out here, my first spring ball.
Are the goals you have for yourself and the goals the coaching staff has for you different during this part of the year?
The goal is just to get better, do whatever I have to do to help the team win and maximize my opportunities.
What was your first impression of your new receivers coach, coach Micah Simon?
[He's] fun, brings good energy to the offensive room, the receiver room, something we needed. He's definitely a different vibe, different tone and a different identity as well.
You have a brother named New Zealand who played football at SDSU. He played on defense, you play on offense. Was there any competition between you two growing up?
Most definitely. Me and him and my little brother were always competing. Video games, just doing everything, who's better in what. It was always fun and at the end of the day, that's my brother. We were always pushing to make each other better. He's one of the reasons I'm in the position I'm in right now.
How frequently do you and him stay in touch?
A lot. He's got a defensive mind, so I pick his mind, as an offensive player, to see what he sees. He watches my film and tells me what he sees. That's very beneficial, very helpful.
