Utah's Season Ends with 4-2 Loss to Arizona in Big 12 Second Round

WACO, Texas – The University of Utah women's tennis team's 2025 season came to an end Thursday evening with a 4-2 loss to Arizona in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament.
Utah's points were notched by Emma Kamper and Kaila Barksdale as they both picked up singles wins.
The Utes end the season with a 9-15 overall record.
DOUBLES
Utah had a slow start in doubles play. The Wildcats picked up a win on the No. 2 court to quickly take an advantage. Samantha Horwood and Dylan Lolofie battled in a 4-6 loss to Belen Nevenhoven and Zoya Chulak at the No. 3 spot to give Arizona the advantage.
The No. 78 ranked Utah duo, Sara Akid and Emma Valletta were up 5-3 on the No. 44 ranked duo, Danielle Tuhten and Josie Usereau before the point was clinched and the action remained unfinished.
?SINGLES
Arizona kept the momentum through much of singles action. The Wildcats picked up wins at the No. 2 and No. 5 spots to take an early 3-0 edge over the Utes. Emma Kamper picked up an impressive 6-3, 7-6 (3) win at the No. 1 spot over Arizona's Usereau.
Kaila Barksdale also snatched a dominant singles victory by taking down Martyna Ostrzygalo 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot.
With the overall match score set at 3-2 the deciding point came on court No. 6. Dylan Lolofie dropped her first set but forced a tiebreak in the second set with the hopes to keep the Utes alive. Lolofie couldn't pull out the tiebreak and Arizona clinched the 4-2 win over Utah.
Valletta won her first set 6-3 but dropped her second set. She was up 4-3 in her third set when the match went unfinished.
