COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Utah track & field team saw its 4x100m relay team make history when it recorded a time qualifying mark to punch its ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday inside E.B. Cushing Stadium on the final day of competition at NCAA West Regionals.
Â
Utah's total of six athletes that punched their ticket to Eugene for the NCAA Track & Field Outdoor is a new program-high – which was set last season with five.
Â
The day got off to a hot start for Utah as
Megan Rose,
Emily Martin,
Bailey Kealamakia and
Chelsea Amoah became the first 4x100m relay squad to earn a berth to the NCAA Championships after finishing with a school record time of 43.85 to earn the last and final time qualifying spot.
Â
Utah's 1500m trio of
Bri Rinn,
Erin Vringer and
Millie Wilcox was unable to advance to Eugene. Rinn was just shy of the final qualifying time mark, crossing at 4:13.05 while
Erin Vringer was right behind her at 4:13.35. Wilcox would round things out for the Utes with a run of 4:21.49.
Â
In the 3000m steeplechase,
Sona Kourilova was just off of her personal best when she clocked in at 10:19.46 in her first NCAA West Regional meet.
Emily Chaston wasn't able to advance too, finishing at 10:22.71.
Â
Vringer would return to the track for a second opportunity to punch her ticket to Eugene, but was short in the 5000m race when she clocked in at 16:20.17.
Â
The 4x400m relay squad consisting of Amoah, Martin,
Annie Ivins and Kealamakia closed out the weekend for Utah and finished with the third-fastest mark in program history at 3:35.30 but wasn't able to notch an advancing mark.
