LOGAN, Utah – The No. 21 Utah Utes swept the Utah State Aggies in an in-state matchup (25-22, 25-19, 25-16), Saturday night at Wayne Estes Center.
After a previous loss to the No. 10 Texas A&M Aggies on Thursday night, Utah's first loss of the season, the Utes put their energy toward getting back in the win column against the local Aggies and did so with relative ease.
Â
SET ONE
A close-fought first set opened the in-state matchup for the Utes and Aggies.
Levani Key-Powell got the game started with a service ace that ultimately ended up being the first of five in the game, and a new career-high for the sophomore libero.
Both teams battled back and forth until a kill from
Kamryn Gibadlo started the Utes into a 3-point scoring streak. The Aggies battle back after a timeout taken by Utah, however, a combo of another Key-Powell ace and
Emrie Moea'i kill leads the Utes to a 25-22 set win.
SET TWO
Much like the first set, the Utes and Aggies battle back and forth going into 8 different ties.
With the score at 11-11,
Katelynn Field landed a kill that started a 5-point run for the Utes.
Later, Leah Wilton-Laboy made a solo-block against her former team to give the Utes a 21-18 advantage. The Utes took the set a few plays later, 25-19, with a block assist by Field and
Allie Grossenbach.
SET THREE
Like the previous sets, the third started close, but a combination of a successful Utah challenge and a kill by
Neea-Maria Joki moved the score 4-1 in favor of the Utes. The Aggies answer back to tie the game at 4-4, restarting the back and forth.
Finally, Moea'i swatted a kill that started an 8-point run for Utah. Key-Powell contributed her fifth and final ace of the night and two separate kills by Moea'i and Gilbadlo.
Moea'i ended the set 25-16, on a block that gave the Utes the clean sweep win over Utah State.

- Key-Powell led the game with 5 service aces and sets a career-high, beating her 2024 seasons total of 3 (also against Utah State).
