Utes Pick up First Win of the 2026 Season Downing Idaho State 6-1

SALT LAKE CITY— The University of Utah women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 6-1 victory over the Idaho State Bengals Saturday afternoon.
The Utes picked up the first point of the match by sweeping in doubles action and then posting strong singles performances.

DOUBLES
The Utes started off the match strong with Sara Akid and Emmie Moore taking a 6-1 win over the Mille Day and Emmy Richards at the No. 2 spot. While Emma Valleta and Emma Kamper battled back to take a 6-4 victory over Asem Shoybek and Stefanya Shalakhova on the No. 1 court.
Utah secured the doubles point but played out the final doubles match on the No. 3 court. Hayley Roberts and Dylan Lolofie pushed the third doubles match to a tie-break and took the set 7-6 (1) to secure the victory before heading into singles action.

SINGLES
In singles action, Akid picked up the first singles point for the Utes with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Shoybek on the No. 3 court.
Moore faced Shalakhova in the No. 2 spot, where she went on to win the match 6-3, 6-3. Kamper powered on to pick up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Day at the No. 1 court clinching the overall match victory for the Utes.
The rest of the matches played out with Roberts picking up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sydney Morris at the No. 5 spot. Valleta was the last to finish for Utah where she went on to battle Emmy Richards in a tiebreak. Valleta pulled won her first set 6-2 but fell in the second, 6-7 (5). She then went on to claim the tiebreak 10-4 on the No.5 court.
The Utes are now 1-1 on the season.

The Utes will host Utah State and Montana Friday, Jan. 30 in a double header in the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.
