IRVING, Texas – Senior
Elias Petersen has been named the Big 12 Conference Men's Diver of the Week, the league office announced Thursday. This marks the third time this season Petersen has earned weekly honors from the conference.
Petersen played an integral role in Utah's win in the rivalry dual meet against BYU last week. The Malmo, Sweden, native took gold on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards against the Cougars, the third time this season that he has swept the springboard events. Petersen logged a 370.30 list total on 1-meter and scored a season-high 398.55 total on 3-meter.
Petersen is one of three divers in the Big 12 to earn Diver of the Week honors three times this season, joining TCU's David Ekdahl and Houston's Michelle McLeod.
Utah has earned a total of 11 Big 12 Conference weekly awards this season, highlighted by seven total Diver of the Week nods. Utah has claimed 21 weekly awards since joining the Big 12 prior to last season, 14 of which have come from divers. Petersen leads all Utes with six weekly awards and was recognized as the conference's Diver of the Year a season ago.
Utah Swim and Dive is back in the water on Tuesday, Feb. 24, when the Utes travel to Greensboro, N.C., for the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship presented by Allstate. Competition between the league's seven men's and 10 women's programs will run through Saturday, Feb. 28.
