Utah falls 12-1, to visit LMU on Monday
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The University of Utah baseball team suffered a 12-1 defeat on Sunday afternoon at the hands of the UCSB Gauchos at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Utah is now 4-5 in 2026.
The Utes carved out seven hits against Gaucho pitching and Luke Jacobs and Jake Long each had two. Jacobs logged the first knock of the day with a first-inning single and, after a walk to Cameron Gurney, Jacobs came around to score on a two-out safety by Long. Gurney also reached base three times via a single, a walk and a hit by pitch.
Unfortunately for the Utes, the home team seized the momentum after that opening tally. The Gauchos tied the game with a run of their own in the first, then took the lead with three in the fourth, two coming on a Nick Husovsky homer. UCSB added single runs in the fifth and sixth before putting together a six-run frame in the eighth.
On the mound, Justin Abercrombie got the start and recorded the first eight outs before Ryan Kittredge entered in relief. The senior right-hander gave the Utes three innings of work out of the bullpen and was relieved by Ian Lenius, who threw scoreless ball for 1 1/3 innings. Anson McGorman got the last three outs for the Utes without allowing a hit and also struck out two.
