The First Pitch: Things to Know
- The Utah baseball team is home for the final week of the regular season, hosting four games on Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark. The Utes begin the stretch Tuesday with a non-conference game against in-state foe Utah Tech.
- The Utes are back in SLC looking to get back on track after being on the receiving end of a sweep at TCU this past weekend. All three games were well-pitched on both sides and saw Utah walk just three Horned Frogs batters all weekend, while the defense played error-free baseball. But runs came at a premium in the series and the Utes couldn't quite solve the TCU pitching staff.
- The Utah defense has turned a Big 12-leading 47 double plays this season. It ranks 11th in the country and is just five away from entering the top-six in program history for a single season.
- Tuesday will mark the Trailblazers' first trip to America First Ballpark. Utah Tech won last year's lone meeting between these clubs in St. George while the sides split a pair of games in 2024, with the home team winning both contests.
- Freshman Cal Miller went 4-for-7 during the TCU series and walked five times. It brought Miller's on-base streak to 23 consecutive games, the longest by a Utah freshman since 2011.
- Daniel Arambula and Cameron Gurney also homered over the weekend in Fort Worth. Colter McAnelly gave Utah a quality start in the series opener on Friday with six innings of three-run ball. McAnelly reached 200 career strikeouts, becoming just the fifth pitcher in recorded Utah history to hit the milestone.
- Utah is batting .302 as a team, ranking fifth in the Big 12 and top 45 in the nation. The home cookin' for the Utes has carried into the late innings of the season, as Utah is 14-6 at America First Ballpark while hitting .329 in the home confines.
- Utah will wrap up the regular season with a three-game series against Baylor. It runs from Thursday through Saturday, May 14-16, inside America First Ballpark.
