OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Utah's
Matt Flaharty has been named the Brooks Wallace Award Shortstop of the Week, announced on Tuesday by the College Baseball Foundation. The award is presented to the nation's most outstanding shortstop.
Â
Flaharty hit .563 last week after going 9-for-16 at the plate with four doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs—all team bests. He doubled in each of Utah's four games last week as the Utes wrapped up the regular season with a four-game homestand. It sends the team into this week's Big 12 Tournament with Flaharty riding a 10-game hitting streak.
Â
He also had a hand in a double play, helping Utah climb to a season total of 51 twin-killings which lead the Big 12. The team total is just one double play short of entering the top-six for a single season in Utah Baseball history.
