Utes sweep nonconference schedule, improve to 3-0 on the season
SALT LAKE CITY – The 17th-ranked Utah football team put together a complete performance to defeat Utah State, 33-0, in front of 51,455 fans at a sold-out Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Utes (3-0) have now scored 30-plus points in nine straight games dating back to the 2025 season, the longest streak in the nation. Utah State fell to 0-3 on the campaign with the defeat.
Utah's offense was fueled by an electric first quarter in which they piled up 199 total yards compared to just 10 yards for the Aggies. The Utes scored on all three of their possessions and held the ball for better than 12 minutes. Quarterback Devon Dampier completed 9-of-12 passes for 116 yards, while Braden Pegan hauled in five passes for 67 yards and the game's first touchdown against his former team.
Pegan finished with 8 catches for 122 yards and two scores, his first 100-yard game as a Ute. Dampier posted his ninth straight game with multiple TD tosses, and his stat line also included 253 yards and two touchdown passes, along with 34 yards on the ground. Daniel Bray paced Utah's rushing attack with 82 yards, including a 63-yard sprint to paydirt, the team's longest play of 2026 through three games.
The Utes put together a balanced offensive attack that included 253 yards through the air and 154 rushing yards. Both of Utah's red zone opportunities ended in touchdowns, while the Utes held USU to 0-for-2 in the red zone. Dillon Curtis contributed to the point total by knocking through a pair of field goals, including a 54-yarder that matched his career-long.
On defense Utah forced the Aggies to punt on their first four possessions, limiting the visitors to just 85 first half yards and four first downs. USU was held to just 163 total yards on the afternoon. One of the red zone opportunities ended with an interception by Rabbit Evans in the end zone and the second was thwarted thanks to a fourth-and-one TFL from Lance Holtzclaw and Elijah Elliss.
The list of contributors to the defensive effort included a career-best 10 tackles from linebacker Trey Reynolds, which was also the first double-digit tackle game for a Ute this season. Cyrus Polu contributed 1.5 sacks, while Evans and Nate Ritchie added quarterback takedowns as well.
