On the game …
We’re executing, and a lot of different guys are getting the opportunity to play, and trying to get a handle on the rotations when the time comes. I was really pleased with the 22 assists on the 30 field goals, I thought we moved the ball really well, and we were close to some goals of keeping that team in the 40’s. It was a rough stretch for those guys, three games in three nights. [Coppin State] landed in Salt Lake yesterday at 2 p.m. They didn't have a whole lot in the aspect of legs, but we are just trying to learn to respect the game regardless of whom we play and the price of poker is going to go up. [UC] Riverside has a nice squad and so does Butler. Thanksgiving is right around the corner, so this will give us a week, and this will give us a lot better of a week with that practice setting. From an offensive point of view we are going to need to execute, and knock down the quick hitters.
On Tyler Rawson in the starting line-up …
There isn't a kid on our squad that works harder than Jayce Johnson, so its not a punishment with him. We thought they were going to zone us a lot more and Tyler is a lot quicker. They are also a smaller team so its harder for Jayce to keep up. I’m going to be mixing things up throughout the course of the year.
On the play style against CSU …
Well, I really wanted to get up and pressure and in that regard we don't have to pressure that team. It’s not like we were going easy on them, but there will be better opportunities to press different teams. We kept it pretty simple; we talked about not giving up very many transition baskets. We had a lot of practice guarding the pick and roll because they are a pick and roll team. We also need to do a better job of guarding the basketball in one on one situations. I thought we also got better in zone offense.
Sophomore Guard Parker Van Dyke
On the team progress during the three-game stretch …
Definitely, I think we have improved in specific aspects each game and coming out to every game there has been different things we have pointed out, like defensive transition, guarding the bounce, and keeping people out of the paint. Even though these past games haven't been very close, I think there has been progress with our team.
On the mental edge of playing lower teams versus the mental edge of conference play…
I think our coaches do a good job of preparing us for any opponent and treating every opponent the same. On any given night, a good college team can come in and beat us, so we need to be prepared for that. Regardless of who we are playing and regardless of what the score is, we have to come out with the same level of high intensity.
Sophomore Guard Jake Connor
On the key to the early three point shooting success …
Keys [to us knocking down three’s early] are that we worked on some zone stuff today, we came out expecting them to throw that at us. We did a good job of moving the ball and making those extra passes. When the ball got to me, I’m just giving credit to my teammates on getting me open and letting me knock them down.
