On what went into the final play…
We have a play called home-run, it’s hard to throw a pass from 95 feet and Kyle actually put it right on the money to Lorenzo, but the pass if we are down three should have been at the three-point line. Take a look at it though, there might be something worth watching.
Â
On the final possessions…
It was just an end, out of bounds play, that we have. It’s not a one-person option play, we had multiple options. It’s out of our 30 series, we run it a million times. I need to look at the film, I thought David was open, but we want to be a little more crisp with our screens. It’s a man to man on an end out of bounds play.
Â
On going toe-to-toe with UCLA…
I want to watch film. I believe our guys responded well and it was an unbelievable college atmosphere … really fun to be a part of. All the way through to the marketing department, everybody did a great job gearing up for a game of this magnitude. It was a good game, we just made mistakes down the stretch, that was the biggest part.
Â
We had two critical errors on defense and we didn’t have a lot of time to prep. It’s a game of mistakes, we were pretty darn solid defensively all the way throughout. And at the end of the day when you look at the second chance points, the points they scored off of their misses. Even though we out rebounded them, they got too many offensive rebounds and put backs. We just didn’t completely finish plays. They were a great offensive team; guys share the basketball really well.

Freshman Guard Sedrick Barefield
Â
On how it was to play in this type of game…
It was really fun … big stage.
Â
On what happened down the stretch…
They hit a big shot and took the lead and we just couldn’t find that last score to take the next lead.
Â
On playing against Lonzo again…
It was cool, just like any other game. Got to come and compete.
Â
On the second half…
I didn’t feel any anxiety or any nerves. I caught the ball in rhythm and felt like I could make the shots I took.
Â
Senior Guard Lorenzo Bonam
Â
On the last couple of plays…
On the end line, they only had three fouls, so they had four fouls to give. So we didn’t mess up on the play, they just were trying to milk some of the clock. As far as the last play on the inbound, we did that correct too. It’s just, the shot we took.
Â
On getting the pass on the final play…
We only had one second … with one second left, it’s impossible for me to get out to the three-point line if I catch it under the basket.

On fouling at the end of the game…
It helps when you have fouls to give instead of guarding them for 15, 16 seconds, you reduce it to five seconds. I thought we handled it really well and I thought the last one we could have gotten a steal. The guys just handled late game really well. We made the right plays. This isn’t easy when you come to one mountain trip with altitude. A lot of times it is the first time for these guys coming, three of them at least. It is a quick turnaround playing as late as we did on Thursday and then to travel and then play pretty early in the afternoon on Saturday. I am just proud of our guy’s effort. We didn’t shoot the ball particularly well but we found a way to win and I just can’t say enough about this team. We are 18-1 and the one loss was on the road on a last second shot. So we are almost at 20 games and our guys continue to do things that breed winning and I am very appreciative of that.
Â
On the tough road environment…
This is a great road swing. We have won back-to-back games in the national tournament. We have won back-to-back games in Pac-12 Tournament play. We have won back-to-back road games in non-conference but getting that in this year with this team because we have played so well and Oregon we were on a last second shot from sweeping that and now here we are we’ve played six games, four away from home, and we are 3-1 on the road. To do that in these environments and this a great environment and a very good basketball team, I am very pleased.
Â
On Utah’s team and the win…
The two transfers have obviously helped them immensely and this is a very good basketball team so that’s why we are so pleased to get out with a win, to beat Colorado and Utah in the same weekend with a very quick turnaround. We didn’t get in until 5 o’clock yesterday. It’s a very, very quick turnaround and we only played seven or eight guys. I thought our bench did some good things. I thought Aaron [Holiday] was good, Ike [Anigbogu] in the second half, and Gyorgy Golomon gave us great minutes. Just really pleased. A great team effort.
Â
On Utah pounding the paint…
Every game we watch tape and we try to grow and get better and they did. They drove us hard, got the ball in the paint way too much. I think our zone slowed that down in the second half. Again, we were down eight or nine and we get back and take the lead on the road. We did the same thing at Oregon. Got down, went on a 17-0 run before we got beat on a last second shot. This team has great heart; great desire and they don’t play differently if they are up eight or down eight. They are learning as we go along to make winning plays and it wasn’t perfect but on little rest, I will take it.
