Luke Patterson is in his second season at Utah as assistant alpine coach.
In his first season with the Utes, Patterson helped coach Mark Engel to the 2014 NCAA giant slalom national championship. Five alpine skiers earned All-America honors in 2014.
Patterson previously coached two seasons at Montana State, spending the 2013 season as the head alpine coach. MSU finished ninth at the 2013 NCAA Championships.
Prior to Montana State, Patterson spent five years with the Sugar Bowl Ski Academy. He spent two seasons as the head J3 and J2 coach and the head strength and conditioning coach, coaching skiers between the ages of 13-19. Patterson was the 2008 USSA Far West Skiing Rookie Coach of the Year. He has also coached at the Treble Cone Race Academy and with the Banff Alpine Racers and has worked with the Sky Tavern Adaptive ski program.
Patterson was a two-time All-America skier at Nevada. He finished fourth in the men[apos]s slalom at the NCAA Championships in 2006 and was seventh in the men[apos]s giant slalom in 2005. Patterson skied for the Alberta Alpine ski team. He was the recipient of the Cary Mullen Character Award in 2003.
Patterson, who is from Banff, Alberta, Canada, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in health ecology from Nevada in 2008. He is working towards a master[apos]s in exercise physiology.
