SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - T.D. Croshaw replaced injured quarterback Darnell Arceneaux and threw four touchdowns passes to lead Utah to a 42-0 victory over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday night.
Croshaw blew the game open with third-quarter touchdown passes to Boo Bendinger (12 yards) and Steve Smith (49 yards) to make it 35-0.
Utah (4-1) completed the scoring with an 18-yard interception return by Jay Hill - his second interception return for a TD this season. Utah held Louisiana-Monroe (2-4) to 219 yards total offense while playing its first game this season without a turnover.
After a slow start, Utah scored when Donny Utu took a wide receiver screen from Arceneaux and ran 56 yards down the center of the field for a touchdown with 25 seconds left in the first quarter.
The oft-injured Arceneuax aggravated a previous sprain in his right foot after a 14-yard scramble on Utah's next possession.
Croshaw came in and didn't miss a beat as the junior led the Utes on two consecutive scoring drives to give them a 21-0 halftime lead. First he hit Bendinger for a 32-yard TD pass and then connected with Smith on a 10-yard scoring strike.
Utah was also missing Mike Anderson, its leading rusher, but still gained 181 yards on the ground, led by Omar Bacon's 72.
In this initial meeting between the schools, Utah recorded its first shutout since a 66-0 defeat of Idaho State in 1994. Louisiana-Monroe, which competes as a Division I-A independent, was known as Northeastern Louisiana before this season.
