SALT LAKE CITY - Utah softball player Sara Farnworth was named to the Louisville Slugger All-West Region second team on Tuesday.
The sophomore pitcher/designated player from Upland, Calif., led the Utes in both hitting and pitching in 1999. She ranked ninth in the Western Athletic Conference with a .339 batting average, and had six home runs and 13 RBI. On the mound, Farnworth had the eighth-lowest ERA in the WAC (1.97) and was third in the league in wins with a 19-13 record. She also led the WAC in innings pitched (242.0), appearances (42) and complete games (27); and was third in strikeouts (187). Farnworth earned second team all-WAC honors.
Last weekend, Farnworth pitched 42 consecutive innings and five complete games to lead Utah to the WAC Tournament championship game against No. 2 Fresno State. She was named to the WAC all-tournament team.
