SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team (3-0, 2-0 MWC) will face a tough test this weekend. The Utes hit the road for the first time at No. 34 Washington State Friday, Feb. 4 at noon, then travel back to Salt Lake City for a match Sunday, Feb. 6 against No. 66 Colorado at 11:00 a.m.
About the Utes:
Thus far in the short lived season, Utah has found success in their depth. No. 79 Megan Payne-Dorny has done what is expected at her No. 1 singles position, and the rest of the young Ute squad has played follow the leader.
The depth Utah has shown, has been an incredible blessing considering injuries to two returning players. Cassie Kasteler and Frida Kareld, who joined the team in January have displayed a lot of talent and confidence early. Linn Ronnberg, Irini Kotoglou, and Brooke Wilkinson have contributed consistency so far in the lineup, in their second seasons, while walk-on senior Anna Stechert has restored her competitive career with a 4-1 start.
Doubles has been a huge strength for Utah, as it has won each match in dual play. Payne-Dorny-Kasteler are gelling in the top spot, while the teams of Kotoglou-Kareld and Ronnberg-Wilkinson have shown solid chemistry.
About the Cougars:
Washington State was ranked No. 34 at the end of the fall season.
About the Buffaloes:
Colorado, ranked No. 66, comes to the Eccles Tennis Center as the first match in a five-match homestand. Dominique Lemperle posts a 10-2 record for the Buffs, while Jessica Garrow and Nadine Kenzelmann are the top returning performers, boasting career records of 51-28 and 37-33 respectively.
Looking Ahead:
Utah returns to Mountain West Conference play Feb. 11 and 12 against New Mexico and UNLV at 4:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
