Kimball Christianson, a four-year starting free safety for Utah's football team, has been named one of eight finalists for the second-annual Socrates Award, sponsored by One-on-One Sports. The award, whose creed is "Strong Mind in a Strong Body," honors student-athletes who exemplify leadership, academics, citizenship and athleticism.
Christianson, who was recently named to the Verizon Academic All-America second team, has a 3.81 cumulative GPA in German. He has already performed well on the MCAT exam in preparation for medical school. He has performed numerous acts of community service, including spending time last summer in Calcutta, India, volunteering in one of the hospices founded by Mother Teresa. On the field, he had 65 total tackles in 2000, fifth on the team, and five pass deflections. He also had two tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception.
