Salt Lake City - This Week: Utah travels to the 8th annual Capital Classic Softball Tournament on Thurs.-Sun., Mar. 16-19 in Sacramento, Calif. The 16 team tournament features: Utah, No. 6 Cal., No. 23 Oregon, No. 25 Texas A&M, Nebraska, Louisville, Middle Tennessee State, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Portland State, Utah State, Sacramento State, Virginia, Southeast Missouri State, San Jose State and Wisconsin.
Tournament Quick Facts: The Capital Classic is an annual event hosted by Sacramento State. Pool play begins on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. with 10 games and concludes on Friday with 20 more games. Following pool play, teams are seeded into a single-elimination bracket (beginning Saturday) to determine the tournament champion. First-round losers in bracket play will move into a single-elimination consolation bracket.
This year's tournament field includes a lineup of powerhouse teams from throughout the nation (in all, 15 teams which encompass 10 states and nine conferences, including the Big 12, Big 10, Pac 10, Big West, WAC, Ohio Valley, Conference USA, MWC, and ACC). Three teams are currently ranked in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll and two other teams received votes in the poll.

Utah's Pool Play Schedule: The Utes will play two teams ranked in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll.

Last Week: Utah went 2-4 last week at the NIST. They went 1-2 on Friday, losing the first game to Santa Clara, 3-0, defeating Long Beach State in game two, 13-12, and losing game three to Arizona State, 2-0. On Saturday, the Utes were 1-2, losing 4-0 to Cal. St. Berkeley, shutting down Virginia, 10-2 and losing the late game 10-1 to Baylor. On Tues., Mar. 14, Utah defeated Cal. St. Berkeley, 5-2. The Utes are now 13-14 overall, 0-0 in MWC play.
