Salt Lake City - The 2000 GTE Academic All-District VIII Women's Softball team as selected by CoSIDA was announced Thurs., May 11, and 11 female student-athlete's representing eight different NCAA Division I institutions were honored.
First team selections include: Charelle Ainslie (DP/UNLV), Sarah Beeson (INF/Stanford), Meghan Cunningham (INF/Sacramento State), Kelly Hauxhurst (OF/Washington), Breanne Nickle (C/Utah State), Jennifer Price (OF/Saint Mary's College), Amanda Scott (P, Fresno State), Jennifer Spediacci (P, Washington), Sandy Taylor (INF/Utah State), Nicole Wilkinson (INF/Utah) and Becky Witt (OF/Fresno State).
In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must be a starter or an important reserve and be in at least their second season at their current school.
These 11 student-athletes will now be on the national GTE/CoSIDA Women's Softball Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third team national winners will be announced on Thurs., June 8, 2000. A total of 31 eligible student-athletes were nominated by 13 different schools on the District VIII ballot. Members of CoSIDA in the states of California, Hawaii, Alaska, British Columbia, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Utah were responsible for voting on the squad.
