Salt Lake City - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced the 2000 Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American teams at the Women's College World Series on Wed., May 24. Senior catcher Sunny Smith was named second-team All-American.
Smith led Utah's offense with a school record 18 home runs, 60 RBI and a .374 batting average. She was named to the All-West Region team, the Mountain West Conference All-Tournament team and was a MWC All-Conference team selection. Smith virtually rewrote Utah's single season record books this past year and has made her mark among Utah's career leaders as well.
This is the first year since 1998 that Utah Softball has had an athlete named to the All-American team.
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association names more than 300 first, second and third-team All-Americans in NCAA Divisions I, II, and III as well as in NAIA, NJCAA, California Community College and high school and the Northwest Community College Athletic Association.
