COMING UP:
No. 25 ranked Utah (4-6) heads to Santa Barbara, Calif. for a five-game tournament. The Utes are prepared to battle Auburn at 11 a.m. and UC-Riverside at 1 p.m., Fri., Feb. 23. On Sat., Feb. 24, Utah plays host Santa Barbara at 3 p.m. and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo at 5 p.m. Utah concludes the tournament Sun., Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. against Santa Clara.
RECENT RESULTS:
Utah maintained a spot in the polls after going 3-2 at the UNLV Tournament last weekend. The Utes earned wins over Florida International, 5-2, Central Michigan, 5-0, and No. 16 Oregon State, 12-6. The losses came at the hands of California, 4-0, and Portland State, 9-2.
UTES AT THE YARD:
Freshman shortstop Melissa Stahnke continues to lead the Utes at the plate. She is hitting at a .375 clip with four home runs, an .844 slugging percentage, three doubles, and eight runs. She is second on the squad with nine RBI. Lyndsey Trevis has produced 10 RBI, while batting .323. She is sporting a .943 fielding percentage at the hot corner (3B). Utah's workhorse on the mound is once again Kristin Arbogast. Arbogast has been known for her longevity, throwing 370.2 innings a year ago. This season she has already amassed 52.0 innings on nine appearances and seven starts. She has notched 39 strikeouts while holding opponents at bay with a .225 against batting average.
UP NEXT:
Utah comes "home" for the first time in 2001 to host the second annual University of Utah Red Dessert Classic March 2-4, in St. George Utah. Other teams in the tourney are: Washington, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Stanford, and in-state rival Utah State.
