Logan, Utah - Utah State continued a nine-game losing streak as the Utes shut them down, 8-4 and 6-5, in Logan, Utah, on Wed., Apr. 11. Utah improves 26-17-1 on the season, 5-2-1 in MWC play. Utah State falls to 5-29-0 overall, 2-2 in the MWC.
In the first game, junior Molly McLean went 2-for-4 with one run and freshman Melissa Stahnke went 1-for-4 with a home run, one run and three RBI. Angie Kenney recorded a double and three RBI, while Christa Pfeninger had one hit and one RBI. Kristin Arbogast tallied the win for Utah. Arbogast pitched seven innings, giving up five hits, three earned runs, one walk and struck out five in 28 batters faced. She has a 19-12 overall record. As a team, the Utes went 9-for-31, with eight runs and seven RBI.
For the Aggies, Breanne Nickle notched two hits, along with one run and three RBI. Lisa Spencer (4-9) took the loss for Utah State.
Utah State's seventh inning comeback was not enough as the Utes held on for the win. Utah tallied six hits in 28 at bats, along with six runs and six RBI. Stahnke went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and an RBI. McLean hit a two run homer and teammate Michele Larsen went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Freshman Heather Bowlin posted the win after pitching 5.1 innings. Bowlin gave up 11 hits, five earned runs, four walks and struck out two in the game. She improves to 7-5 overall.
Danielle Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with one run for the Aggies. Heather Curtis notched two hits, one run and one RBI, and Casey Smith recorded two hits and two RBI, respectively. Xochitl Ramirez took the loss for Utah State. She drops to 0-6 overall.
UP NEXT: The Utes host in-state rival Brigham Young on Sat., Apr. 14 at 12:00 p.m. (DH) at Ute Field. On Tues., Apr. 17, Utah travels to Cedar City, Utah to meet the Southern Utah Thunderbirds for a doubleheader at 1:30 p.m. The Utes are back in action at home on Fri., Apr. 20, hosting Colorado State at 1:30 p.m. (DH). On Sat., Apr. 21, Utah will take on the New Mexico Lobos in a twinbill at 12:00 p.m. The Utes will face the UNLV Rebels on Fri., Apr. 27 at 1:30 p.m. (DH) and the San Diego State Aztecs on Sat., Apr. 28 at 12:00 (DH) at Ute Field.
