Utah Softball Splits With San Diego State

San Diego, Calif. - Utah continued Mountain West Conference play on the road in San Diego splitting with San Diego State, losing game one 7-1 and winning game two, 6-3, on Fri., Apr. 6. Utah is now 23-16-1 on the season, 4-1-1 in MWC play. The Aztecs move to 24-15-0 overall, 2-2 in the MWC.
In the first game, junior Lyndsey Trevis went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Senior Amberly Jeppson managed two hits in three at bats. Kristin Arbogast took the loss for Utah. Arbogast pitched six innings, giving up nine hits, three earned runs one walk and struck out five in 30 batters faced. As a team, the Utes went 6-for-25, with one run and one RBI.
For the Aztecs, Janna Kovensky was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Sandra Durazo tallied the win for San Diego State.
Utah scored five runs in the seventh inning to clinch the win for the Utes in game two. Freshman Melissa Stahnke went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, two runs and three RBI. Trevis went 1-for-3 with a double, one run and two RBI. Jeppson went 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Arbogast recorded the win, pitching seven innings and giving up 10 hits, three earned runs one walk and struck out two in 31 batters faced. She improves to 17-11 overall. Utah went 8-for-26 with six runs and six RBI in the game.
Kovensky totaled two hits in two at bats, along with two runs. Tiffany Goudy posted the loss for the Aztecs. She drops to 3-3 overall.
UP NEXT: Utah heads to Las Vegas, Nev., for a twinbill with the UNLV Rebels (18-16-0, 1-1 MWC) on Apr. 8 at 12:00 p.m. On Wed., Apr. 11, Utah will face Utah State in a non-conference doubleheader match-up in Logan, Utah at 2:00 p.m. The Utes host in-state rival Brigham Young on Sat., Apr. 14 at 12:00 p.m. (DH) at Ute Field. On Tues., Apr. 17, Utah travels to Cedar City, Utah to meet the Southern Utah Thunderbirds for a doubleheader at 1:30 p.m. The Utes are back in action at home on Fri., Apr. 20, hosting Colorado State at 1:30 p.m. (DH). On Sat., Apr. 21, Utah will take on the New Mexico Lobos in a twinbill at 12:00 p.m. The Utes will face the UNLV Rebels on Fri., Apr. 27 at 1:30 p.m. (DH) and the San Diego State Aztecs on Sat., Apr. 28 at 12:00 (DH) at Ute Field.
