Salt Lake City - Thirteen players from five Mountain West Conference softball teams earned All-West Region honors as announced by Louisville Slugger on Wednesday, May 16. Unlike the all-conference team, all-region honors are chosen by position. The West Region consists of teams which belong to the Big West, Western Athletic and Mountain West Conferences.
Utah earned two first team selections. The 2001 Mountain West Conference Player of the Year Lyndsey Trevis claimed first team honors at third base as did Niki Hayhurst at first base.
New Mexico landed three players on the second team. San Diego State placed pitcher Sandra Durazo on the first team and one other player on the second team, while UNLV claimed one first team honor and one second team honor. Colorado State landed one first team selection and Brigham Young had two first team and one second team selection.
