THIS WEEK: The University of Utah women's tennis squad opens the 2001-02 season by facing off against in-state rival Utah State. This match will be held Jan. 18, at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. Match play begins at 5:00 p.m.
The Utes will also compete against the Falcons of Air Force in the second match of the season. This will be the Utes first conference match and will be held at the Eccles Tennis Center, on Jan. 20 at 1:00 p.m.
THE UTES: Utah has successfully competed in three non-season tournaments prior to the season opener. In the BYU Invitational, Ellen Svennson defeated No. 21 ranked Dominique Reynolds of Brigham Young, who was all-conference in 2001, to take home the Flight 1 Backdraw Championship. The Utes also performed well in the Utah Invitational. The Linn Ronnberg and Irini Kotoglou duo advanced to the finals after defeating Utah State's Sarah Lowe and Caroline Pollock, 8-4.
COMING UP: The Utes will take on Weber State. This match will also be held at the Eccles Tennis Center, on Jan. 25 at 5:00 p.m.
QUOTING COACH TSUMAS: "Utah State is a very deep team and this should be a good match. I'm excited to see the two teams play and the progress we have made. Air Force is a good team as well. Both matches should be exciting and I can't wait to get started."
