Las Vegas, Nev.--The Utes dropped their second game of the day when they fell to No. 7 Lousianna State, 5-2 on Saturday night at the UNLV Softball Classic. The Utes stranded nine runners and committed a three-error inning that broke a 2-2 lead for LSU. Utah wraps up the tourney against No. 1 UCLA on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
It was another home run that hurt the Utes early, as Julie Wiese's shot in the first put the Tigers up 1-0. LSU added another in the third to double their score, 2-0. Utah answered with two of its own in the fourth when Bryanne Durrence ripped a two-out single to left to bring in Glennis Donnelly and Lynsey Wall.
The fourth inning proved costly for the Utes as they committing three defensive errors. The errors led to three Tiger runs and a 5-2 deficit. Trying to stage a rally, Utah used three singles in the sixth to load the bases with one out. The Tigers then subbed in Tessa Lynam who struck out the next two Utes, leaving the three runners stranded.
Durrence and Niki Hayhurst led the Utes with two hits apiece. Durrence added the two RBI. Hurler Heather Bowlin is credited with the loss after throwing 6.0 innings, while allowing five runs (two earned). The loss drops Bowlin to 2-2 on the year.
