Las Vegas, Nev.--Utah ended the UNLV Softball Classic with an 7-0 loss to No. 1 UCLA on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Utes to 4-6 on the year and bumps the Bruins to 10-1.
The game was broken open in the bottom of the third, when UCLA batted around and used six hits and two Ute errors to build a 6-0 lead. All-American Tasha Watley had a single and an RBI double in the inning. Watley ripped another RBI single in the fifth to make it 7-0.
The Utes struggled to get their offense going against All-American Kiera Goerl. The only Utes' hit came when Jackie Wong led off the game with an infield single.
Heather Bowlin is credited with the loss for Utah, dropping her to 2-3. Bowlin threw 3.0 innings, allowing six runs (three earned) while striking out two. Goerl gets the win to improve to 8-1.
Up next, the Utes travel to the Santa Barbara Tournament, Feb. 21-23.
