Santa Barbara, Calif.--The Utes fell to Cal Poly, 4-0 on Friday night. The loss drops Utah to 5-7 on the year. Utah will face Iowa State and Kansas on Saturday and will wrap up the tournament against Cal State Northridge on Sunday.
Utah wasn't struggling at the plate, connecting for seven hits in the game. The problem was the Utes failed to advance the runners, stranding nine in the game. Cal Poly notched eight hits in the game, but was able to bring in four runs.
Heather Bowlin gets the loss for Utah to fall to 2-4 on the year. Bowlin allowed four runs off four hits in 3.0 innings of work. Freshman Brianna Gourdin continued to throw well in relief. Gourdin held the Mustangs scoreless in 3.0 innings, while giving up four hits. Traci Keller had two hits in the game for Utah.
