Santa Barbara, Calif.--Utah dropped its third straight game at the Softball by the Beach Tourney on Saturday afternoon. The Utes (5-9) fell, 6-3, to Kansas (9-2). Utah wraps up the tournament on Sunday against Cal State Northridge.
Niki Hayhurst was the Utes' brightspot of the game. The senior went 2-of-3 at the plate, which included a two-run dinger and a single. The home run is Hayhurst's second on the season. Utah's other run came off an RBI single by Melissa Stahnke in the fifth.
Overall, Utah had six hits in the game, but left seven runners on base. Along with Hayhurst, Jackie Wong added two hits for the Utes.
Heather Bowlin pitched 7.0 innings for Utah, allowing six runs (five earned) and 10 hits in the loss. Bowlin falls to 2-5 on the year.
