PROVO - PROVO -- The University of Utah women's tennis team fell to a strong Brigham Young team 1-6 in the first Mountain West Conference match for both schools. The loss sets the Utes back to .500, now 2-2 on the year.
The Utes were unable to win the doubles point, dropping all three matches to the Cougars. Cassie Kasteler and Ellen Svennson were dropped 8-3 by Dominique Reynolds and Leeza Klempner in the no. 1 position. Sheri Esrock and Rachel Alder lost to Hadley MacFarlane and Nicole Schneider. MacFarlane and Schneider are undefeated on the year.
"We had some hesitant and inconsistent performances today," Utah Head Coach Megan Payne-Dorny said after the match. "The one bright spot was Ellen Svennson who played well in singles and doubles today."
Svennson scored the lone point for the Utes, with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Olga Bulytchova. The Utes next take a mid-west road trip, to Kansas State and Kansas next weekend.
