SACRAMENTO, Calif.--The Utes grabbed their second straight game at the Capital Classic as they defeated Sacramento State, 5-0 on Saturday morning. Utah (10-15) faces No. 3 Washington this afternoon.
Jen Pursell continued her hot pitching streak, throwing a complete-game shutout. The senior allowed just four hits and struck out five in the effort. She is now 6-8 this season.
Utah struck first in the game with an RBI single in the third by Ivette Hernandez. The team added another three runs in the third with one swing of the bat by Melissa Stahnke. The shot was Stahnke's third home run of the week. With a 4-0 lead, Utah added another to make it a 5-0 final. The run came when Lynsey Wall cross the plate on a single to left by Bryanne Durrence.
Stahnke had a great performance for the Utes, going 2-of-3 at the plate with the three RBI and two runs scored. Durrence added two hits and an RBI.
