Albuquerque, N.M.--Utah grabbed a 7-3 victory over New Mexico (17-28-1, 2-7) on Sunday afternoon to improve to 13-19 overall and 2-3 in Mountain West Conference Play. This was the first game of a doubleheader between the two teams.
The Utes used two innings to mark up the scoreboard and would never yield their lead. In the fourth, Utah sent three runners home to take to make it a 3-0 margin.
After a Lobo run in the fourth and another in the fifth made it a one-run game, Utah used three hits and three walks to drive in four runs in the sixth. The Lobos brought in another run in the seventh, but that was it.
Lynsey Wall blasted her fourth home run of the year in the win. The freshman was two-of-four at the plate, with four RBI and two runs scored. Niki Hayhurst ripped her ninth double of the year and added a single in a two-of-three effort with one run scored.
Jen Pursell tossed the complete-game victory. The senior allowed three runs off seven hits while striking out three.
