SALT LAKE CITY--Utah dropped game one of a doubleheader to Brigham Young, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Utes to 19-25 overall and 6-9 in league play, while BYU improves to 33-14, 11-7.
The Utes knocked eight hits in the game, including two doubles, but failed to bring in any runs. Utah left eight runners on base, while the Cougars stranded seven. BYU only connected for three hits in the game, but a solo homer in the sixth by Ianeta Lei was all it took.
Jen Pursell gets the loss to fall to 12-14. The senior threw a strong game, striking out six. Brooke Boyce (11-3) grabs the win after scattering eight hits in 7.0 innings with two strikeouts. Jackie Wong had two hits for Utah, while Lei was 3-of-3 for BYU.
