THIS WEEK: The University of Utah women's tennis team hosts No.75 Kansas and No. 56 Denver at the Eccles Tennis Center. The Utes take on the Kansas Jayhawks Saturday Feb. 14 at noon and the Denver Pioneers Sunday, Feb. 15 at noon.
REVIEWING LAST WEEK: Utah lost its home opener last Saturday, Feb. 7 to No. 33 Kansas State. The Utes started the match by winning the doubles point. Although Utah fared well in singles, sophomore Jenessa Jackson, who played at the No. 6, picked up the only win. Despite the effort, Utah fell to Kansas State 4-3.
The team played without freshman Ashley Young and junior Allison Hansen, who are both out due to injury.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: The University of Kansas has six returning players from a team that finished 7-12 overall and placed ninth in the Big 12 Conference. The Jayhawks lost their season opener 5-2 to Mississippi. Currently, Kansas is ranked No. 75 and they are 1-1 in the season.
Denver is ranked No. 56, which is the highest for the women's tennis team since its entry into Division I six years ago. The Pioneers are 3-0 in the season, with shut out wins over New Orleans and Wyoming. Denver also upset No. 44 Colorado 4-3.
QUOTING HEAD COACH Megan Dorny: "This weekend's home matches are against #75 Kansas and #56 Denver. We play at noon on Sat. and Sun., and although we will most likely be without Ashley and Allison, the coaching staff really feels confident in the six that will be playing in the lineup."
" As a team, we've made huge strides in our doubles play. This week, however, the team is going to need to play consistently in both the doubles and singles in order to upset either or both of the ranked teams."
