REVIEWING LAST WEEK: The Utes opened their season last weekend with a good showing in the Boise Invitational. On Friday, Jan. 30 Utah downed No. 74 Cal State Northridge 6-1. On Saturday, Jan. 31 the Utes defeated the University of Idaho Vandals 4-3. The Utes fell to No. 59 ranked Boise State 7-0 on Sunday, Feb. 1. Utah currently has a 2-1 overall record for the season.
Utah went into the Boise Invitational without freshman Ashley Young, who is out due to injury. Junior Allison Hansen went down with a knee injury on Saturday against Idaho. Utah played without Hansen on Sunday.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: Kansas State is currently ranked No. 33. The Wildcats opened their season at home with a 4-3 loss to Mississippi on Jan. 30 and a 6-1 win over Wichita State on Jan. 31.
QUOTING HEAD COACH Megan Dorny: "We are looking forward to playing our first home match against #33 Kansas State. We are coming off a good opening weekend, with two wins and one loss to Boise, and we are looking for our team to come out and play loose and unintimidated."
" I felt like we were a little overwhelmed in the Boise match, especially after losing Allison to a yet to be determined knee injury, but we're expecting the whole team to step up with Ashley and Allison unable to compete at this time."
