SALT LAKE CITY - Utah skiers Ben Thornhill and April Mancuso have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Teams. As one of 10 first-team selections, Thornhill will advance to the national ballot. Mancuso is a second-team honoree.
Thornhill, who boasts a 3.570 grade-point average as a business major, was warded his second NCAA gold medal in 2004, repeating as the giant slalom champion. He was an All-American in both the giant slalom (first) and slalom (sixth) and was the co-recipient of Utah's David Novelle Outstanding Skier Award. Thornhill was named RMISA Skier of the Week for Feb. 22-28 after winning the giant slalom and placing fifth in the slalom at the WSC/Regional Invitational.
Thornhill is a three-time All-American in his two-year career. In 2003, he won the giant slalom and finished 17th in the slalom at the NCAA National Championships. He was named a Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete and earned Dean's List honors.
Mancuso has a 3.570 GPA as an exercise and sport science major. She earned All-America honors in the giant slalom (sixth) and slalom (eighth) at the 2004 NCAA Championships after recovering from a possible career-ending back injury that left her unable to compete during the 2003 season. She was named RMISA all-conference in both the slalom and giant slalom. She was also awarded Utah's C.D. Reddish Memorial Award, given to the upper classman who has contributed the most to the team, as well as the Toril Forland Outstanding Skier Award
Mancuso is a three-time All-American as she placed second in the giant slalom at the 2002 NCAAs. In 2001, she placed in the top-five in the giant slalom four times and her lowest regular-season finish was sixth. She placed 15th in the giant slalom at the 2001 NCAA National Championships and was awarded the Toril Forland Outstanding Skier Award.
