COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Utah football players Brett Ratliff and Casey Evans have been named Mountain West Conference Players of the Week. Ratliff earned Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Evans was the Defensive selection. Evans captured his second career weekly award, while Ratliff was a first-time honoree.
Offense: Brett Ratliff, Utah, Junior, Quarterback
In his first-ever NCAA Division I-A start, Ratliff completed 17-of-32 passes for 240 yards and four touchdowns in Utah's 41-34 overtime win at BYU. Ratliff also rushed for 112 yards on 19 carries (5.9 yards per rush) and one touchdown.
Defense: Casey Evans, Utah, Junior, Defensive Back
Evans totaled a career-high 13 tackles (8 solo) and forced a fumble in Utah's victory at BYU. In the second quarter, Evans stripped Cougar fullback Naufahu Tahi on the BYU 30 and returned it to the 7-yard line. Utah scored two plays later to take a 24-3 lead into halftime.
